We are thrilled to announce that Naramake Elementary School has officially been authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) School! This achievement marks a significant milestone in our ongoing journey to provide a globally-minded, inquiry-based education that truly lives up to our school’s mission and it reflects the values that already guide our work each day.

Naramake’s mission states that we are “a dynamic community dedicated to empowering the whole child through engaging and authentic experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration so that all can contribute meaningfully as global citizens.” The IB PYP framework strongly supports this vision, offering a research-based approach to teaching and learning that places students at the center of their own educational experiences.

In the PYP, learning is organized around six transdisciplinary themes:

  • Who we are
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organize ourselves
  • Where we are in place and time
  • Sharing the planet

These themes allow students to make connections across subject areas and explore concepts in depth, all while considering multiple perspectives. This kind of learning encourages collaboration and helps students see the relevance of what they’re learning in the wider world.

At the heart of the PYP is the IB learner profile. It promotes attributes such as being caring, principled, open-minded, and reflective. These qualities align with our school's commitment to empowering the whole child and supporting all students in becoming thoughtful, responsible members of both local and global communities.

Our school tagline, “Nurturing Hearts, Empowering Minds,” also connects directly to the goals of the PYP. We aim to create a safe, supportive environment where students feel known, valued, and inspired to grow both intellectually and emotionally.

For Naramake families, the shift to the PYP doesn’t mean something new is being added, it means the practices we already value are being deepened and strengthened through a well-established international framework. You’ll see this in the way we structure units of inquiry, how students reflect on their learning, and how we partner with families to support every child’s development.

As we continue this work, we look forward to sharing more about how the IB PYP supports your child’s learning journey here at Naramake.
